Prevalence of SMI (Severe Mental Illness: schizophrenia, psycho-affective disorder, and bi-polar disorder), ages 18 years or older

Individuals with one or more of the following diagnoses in their HMO medical record: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bi-polar disorder (numerator) among individuals aged 18 or older (denominator) [1].

Rational:

Severe mental illness (SMI) includes schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders, and bi-polar disorders. Individuals with SMI are at a higher risk of poor physical health and of premature death. It is estimated that for people with SMI, two out of three deaths are from physical illnesses that can be prevented [1].

Numerator:

Individuals in the denominator with one or more of the following diagnoses in their HMO medical record: schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or bi-polar disorder.

Individuals aged 18 or older
