Cancer Screening

Asset 121.png

Cancer screening aims to detect cancer before symptoms appear. QICH includes indicators of universal screening for breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and cervical cancer. Screening and early detection decreases mortality associated with these conditions. Several factors contribute the adequacy of screening:

 1. A long period during which the disease is not symptomatic but can be detected by appropriate examination: a mammogram for breast cancer, a fecal occult blood test or colonoscopy for colorectal cancer, and a PAP test for early detection of cervical cancer.

 2. The existence of a treatment that prevents the development of precancerous lesions to malignant lesions

In addition, screening tests are included in the health services basket provided to all Israeli residents (except for colonoscopy, which is covered only under certain conditions).
